HOW TO SETUP THE RULES WIZARD FOR SPAM         Thank you golfing buddy, Mark Taylor

To setup a rule to forward messages with the word “SPAM” in the subject field of your message, please follow the following steps:

1)      Click on “Tools” from the Outlook main menu and select “Rules Wizard”.  You will see the following dialogue box:

2)      Click on the “New” button at the right hand side of the box.  You will then be taken to the following screen or one similar to it, depending on which version of Outlook you have.


3)      Highlight the line “Move messages based on content” and click on “Next >” at the bottom of the box.

4)      You will then be taken to the screen below.  In the upper section under “Which condition(s) do you want to check?” area, uncheck the box entitled “with specific words in the subject or body” by simply clicking on the checkmark.


5)      Scroll down this upper box area until you see the box entitled, “with specific words in the subject.”  Click on the box next to it to place a checkmark on this option.  The screen should appear like the following example:

6)      In the bottom portion of this dialogue box under “Rule description (click on an underlined value to edit it):”, click on the highlighted word specific words”.   You will then be taken to the following screen:

In this screen type the word “spam:” in the top portion of the box so that it appears like the example below.  (Note: Please make sure you have added the colon symbol at the end of the word spam as shown in the example below).

Then click on the “Add” button and you will notice the word “spam:” will be added to the bottom “Search list:” area as shown in example below:

7)      Click on “OK” to complete this task and then you will be taken back to the Rules Wizard dialogue box.  The dialogue should appear as shown below:

8)      In the bottom portion of this dialogue box under “Rule description (click on an underlined value to edit it):”, click on the highlighted word specified”.   You will then be taken to the following screen:

9)      At this screen, click on the “New” button at the right hand side of the screen and you will be taken to the following screen:

10)  In the “Name:” area, type in the word “SPAM”.

In the “Folder contains:” area, make sure “Mail and Post Items” is showing.

In the “Select where to place the folder:” area, make sure the word “Mailbox – Dao, Steven” is highlighted (Please note: Where I have indicated “Dao, Steven”, you will actually see your name listed there since this is your mailbox.)

If done properly, the screen should look like the following:


11)  Click on “OK” to complete this task and then you will be taken to the following screen:

12)  Click on “OK” again to complete this task.  Once completed, you will be taken back to the following screen:


13)  Click on the “Finish” box at the bottom right-hand corner of this screen to complete this task.  You will be taken back to the following screen and it should appear similar to the example below:

14)  Click on “OK” at the bottom left-hand corner of this screen to complete this task.

You have now activated a rule on your Outlook that will move all messages with the word “spam:” in the subject field of the message to the new folder that was setup called “SPAM” in your mailbox.
