The Global Networking System is designed to network two or more computers across an existing wide area network. The nature of the network may vary from a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to a TCP\IP network (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). The foundation of the Global network is the ability to access a shared folder location or transfer location. The Global Networking transfers files in a way similar to an FTP (File Transfer Protocol). The Global Networking starts at the individual door counter locations and are setup to automatically or manually perform the file transfer to the shared location. This location may be in the same computer which has the Global software installed in it. This is recommended if possible so as to reduce the number of necessary links. It is not required to have the Shared Folder Location on the Global computer as long as the Shared Folder can be accessed by the computer at the individual location and the computer with the Global software.
The first step will be establishing the shared folder
location. This location will act as
a transfer point between the Traffic Trax at the store location and the Global
software at the corporate location. The
Global software contains the combined database and will allow the person at that
computer two see the Global reports.
It is recommended that the shared folder location be on the same computer as the Global but is not required. The recommended location for this folder is in the C Drive.
Open the <TT Data> folder and create a new text
document. Rename the document
<Target.txt>. The
<Target.txt> will not be part of the file transfer.
It acts only as a target to define a path for the import and export
browser. Your share may require
additional setup for computers running Windows 2000 Pro\ Windows XP Pro.

The connectivity of your network is the key to success. Before the software can be setup access to the shared folder location must be established. Primarily mapping a drive to the computer that contains the shared folder does this. In order to create the mapped drive you must obtain the TCP\IP address of the computer that contains the shared folder.
One example of this number would be <10.10.10.10>.
The following steps will demonstrate how to create a Mapped Drive using Windows 2000 Pro. All other windows operating systems will be similar.
Right click on <My Network Places>. This icon is typically located on the desktop. Select <Map Network Drive>.
